Swarnaprashana refers to the act of orally administering processed Gold. (Ayur)Vedic literature imposes due significance of metals and minerals on the human body. Copper or Tamra and its benefits have grown to form today’s consensus — people believe that consumption of water out of copper vessels is beneficial. Needless to say, the belief arises from the very Vedic tradition. It imposes supreme importance to natural minerals for the development of human body. Alike copper, Swarna or gold is considered to be an important mineral to promote the development of the brain and body in formative years. The benefits of it are manifold and render lasting contribution to health and mind.

Why Children need Swarnaprashana

The human brain develops more than ever during the first five years after birth. It is that time when an infant learns to speak and walk. Not only the fundamental motor functions but also complex faculties such as shaping immunity and physical development also takes place during this period. So, it is of primary concern for the child to have access to proper nutrients that may promote all-round physical as well as mental development. Apart from usual nutrients like protein, carbohydrates and vitamins, body requires certain minerals as well. While calcium and iron are a commonplace name, we need other minerals like zinc, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, chromium and what not. It won’t be wrong to compare human body with a mine that houses all type of metals!

Why Children need Swarnaprashana

Although most minerals are often present throughout different set of food items, the presence of gold is significantly missing from our daily diet. Studies show better and wholesome brain development in people who have administered gold. Not only this, different medicines across myriad disciplines as well use tiny portion of gold for the treatment of maladies.

As a promoter of better health, gold tincture can be administered on people of all age groups. However, it has magical results on children. Formative years allow better absorption of all nutrients. So, administering gold in young age promotes different functions such as better metabolism, improved cognitive functions, better immunity and bone and muscle development. While in adolescent years, administering gold allows proper sexual development and improved fertility.

However, it is as important to choose the correct form for oral imposition as choosing gold in the first place. The mineral has to be at its pure form devoid of any kind of impurities. Impurities likely delay if not completely worsen the desired effect of gold on an individual.

There are myriad forms of gold available in the form of leaf or foil, powder and ashes. Usually milk, ghee and Chayavanprash are considered to be the best medium for better absorption of Swarnaprashana. It is also to be reckoned with that the body needs such minerals at a very minute amount; therefore, going overboard may lead to unwanted health complications in the long run. However Ayurveda expert’s guidance is must for the same.
